It's been a rough weekend. I drove down to Colgate for a party with some old colleagues. My car broke down on the way back (just north of Sussex).
Bad smell. Getting worse. Must find a place that is lit to check out the car.
I pulled into a Mobil station which was closed but illuminated and did a walk-around the car. Smoke poured out as I lifted the hood. I pushed the car to a parking spot and called up a buddy.
The next morning, I let my fingers do the walking and found a place that would take a look at it. My apologies to the Lake Five Mobil station for parking my car past the posted 15 minute limit. It is rather difficult to find a place to have the car towed to on a Sunday morning.
The shop told me a grave scenario as to what might be wrong with my car. Something about a new engine. I'm not sure. Everything the mechanic said after that was a bit fuzzy.
They asked to keep it overnight so they could get one of their "top guys" to look it over. I was in no position to argue. I then made the trek on foot to a Hertz rental office I noticed from the tow truck ride in.
Hertz is closed on Sundays.
For now I'm driving my brother and sister-in-law's minivan to the area car dealerships. Any tips on a reliable used car would be greatly appreciated.
