The Internet is remixed

Remix. Rework. Remaster.

I love it when an old idea becomes new again. To take one creation and make it your own. New. Not a copy. That is quite the accomplishment.

Watch the Watchmen

I just heard a rumor the "Public Enemies" trailer will debut online on March 4. The trailer will be attached to the film "The Watchmen" in theaters on March 6th.

Check Engine

It's been a rough weekend. I drove down to Colgate for a party with some old colleagues. My car broke down on the way back (just north of Sussex).

Bad smell. Getting worse. Must find a place that is lit to check out the car.

I pulled into a Mobil station which was closed but illuminated and did a walk-around the car. Smoke poured out as I lifted the hood. I pushed the car to a parking spot and called up a buddy.

The next morning, I let my fingers do the walking and found a place that would take a look at it. My apologies to the Lake Five Mobil station for parking my car past the posted 15 minute limit. It is rather difficult to find a place to have the car towed to on a Sunday morning.

The shop told me a grave scenario as to what might be wrong with my car. Something about a new engine. I'm not sure. Everything the mechanic said after that was a bit fuzzy.

They asked to keep it overnight so they could get one of their "top guys" to look it over. I was in no position to argue. I then made the trek on foot to a Hertz rental office I noticed from the tow truck ride in.

Hertz is closed on Sundays.

For now I'm driving my brother and sister-in-law's minivan to the area car dealerships. Any tips on a reliable used car would be greatly appreciated.

Health update

Well... I'm out of the hospital of course. I was sprung on Christmas eve.

I'll be on warfarin for the foreseeable future and the doctor is having me go in for regular blood tests to check my clotting ability. I don't mind the tests so much except the increased dosages have been giving me nose bleeds. The doctor calls me often to give me the results of the blood tests and to adjust my dosage. He seems singularly focused on my breathing which has been fine. I tell him my leg still hurts when I stand or walk. He doesn't sound concerned.

My boss was very surprised to see me back to work last Monday. He has such a subtle way of politely scolding me for not calling in a "medical emergency" before I left work on the 19th.

I'm looking forward to getting back on the treadmill. It shouldn't be long now.

Morning exercises

I watched as the schoolchildren from the nearby school went through their morning exercises. The school day in China starts with all students massed on the athletic yard.

Class leaders help direct their peers through a combination of relaxation and low level physical activity, all performed to a blend of "mood" music and oral instruction from a recording being piped in from an area loudspeaker.
